How to add ads and tags

In e-planning version 4, important changes were introduced related to the banner asignation and tags to the campaigns with the objective of simplyfing the operation and making it more intuitive. We now will explain how to operate with the new version.

1. Ad type - is it a tag?

The first thing you should define is if a 3P ad server tag will be uploaded. The files .html o .txt sent from agencies or advertisers that use ad servers are 3P ad server tags. In this case, you should use the option Import 3P ad server tag. If not you should use the option add ad. Some examples are:

Received files

Action to be done

Flash .swf file + click from URL

Add ad

GIF file+ click from URL

Add ad

URL of GIF file + click from URL

Add ad

URL from Flash file (.swf) + click from URL

Add ad

HTML Tags to load the anouncement from another ad server

Import 3P ad server tag

HTML Tag with Javascript, that loads the anouncement of another ad server

Import 3P ad server tag

Tag for Rich Media anouncements

Import 3P ad server tag

Flash layer file + click from URL

Add ad

To resume, when you have a file (or the URL of a file) and a click-through URL, you must use the add ad option. If you have a tag, choose import 3P ad server tag.

2. Format

In the version 4, the formats where arranged in 4 categories:

Banners: Any type of ad that shows inside a box in a fix position of the Site. Example: GIF banner of 120x90, Flash banner of 468x120, etc.

Layers: ads that show over the Site content. In e-planning 4 you can add layer effects in a simple way, with no need of editing the HTML code. Example: Flash layer, Flash layer with video, GIF layer.

Pop ups: ads that show on a new window over the site content.

Pop unders: Ads that show on a new window, beneath the site content.

Inside each category you must choose the specific format. Example: Pop under GIF, Flash layer, JPEG banner, etc. Choose the format that really corresponds with the ad you will show. If you choose a wrong format, the ad will most probably not be shown correctly. Consult our Customer Care Center if you do not know which is the format of the ad you want to upload. If you are uploading a tag, go to step 3.2. If you choose the add ad option, continue in 3.1.

3.1 Add Ad

If you want to upload a tag go to section 3.2. The first thing you should choose when uploading a banner is the format. Here are some of the available formats. Note: From the version 4 onwards, e-planning automatically detect the Flash files size and version, and also detects if they use the clickTag variable correctly. If the file does not use it, in most cases it can be automatically added by e-planning.

3.1.1 Banners

Banner - Applet Java: aplications made in Java

Banner - Flash: Flash banner. You must upload the file or introduce the URL of the file.

Banner - GIF, JPEG y PNG: banners with images. You must upload the file or introduce the URL of the file. The GIFs can be animated or not.

Banner - HTML: HTML banner- for forms or banners that can not be made with just one image. You must introduce the HTML code.

Banner - Text link: text with link. You can choose the letter type, colour and size.

3.1.2 Layers

Layers are shown over the content of the Site. In version 4, e-planning introduces effects that can be applyed over the layers without need of editing the HTML code. Also, in every case you can choose the layer position on the screen. Apart from that you can indicate a time after which the layer disappears automatically.

Flash layer: it can contain an animation.

GIF, JPEG o PNG layer: the e-planning effects can be combined to achieve effective animations at a low cost.

HTML layer: you must introduce the HTML code. Usefull for forms or polls.

The available effects for the layers are:

Estotic: No effect. The layer is shown in the chosen position.

Uniform movement: it moves from the outside of the screen to the final chosen position (left to right, up to down, etc).

Fall: Fall effect from the outside of the screen to the chosen position.

Fall with rebounce: Same as the previous but also bounces.

Translucid: The banner appears progresivelly in the screen (fade in effect). It is not available for flash layer.

In the movement effects you can also choose the speed (from 1 to 10) and the direction of movement. In all layers you can also indicate the following:

Delay before showing the ad: to wait a few seconds before the banner is shown in the screen.

z-index: to modify this layer atribute. You must not modify it unless you use another layers in the site.

Visualisation time: if a value is specified, after this time the layer will automatically disapear from the screen.

Add title: add the banner title on top of it.

Add closing button: add on the right top a button to close the layer.

3.1.3 Pop ups and pop unders

Pop ups show on diferent windows than the window site. The use of pop ups is decreasing because many navegators filters them. Layers are more effective because they can not be easily filtered. In version 4, you can not only choose the window options (tool bar, directory, etc), but also the position of the screen in which the pop opens.

Pop GIF, JPEG o PNG: With image or image URL. e-planning will count the impression when the user asks for the new window code. It does not count the number of filtered pops.

Pop Flash: with Flash file or URL. It does not count the filtered number of pops.

Pop HTML: with HTML code - for polls or forms. It does not count the filtered number.

Pop Site (Site Up / Site Under): The URL of a site is directly opened. All the impresions are counted, either if there are filtered or not. If you wish for a solution for not counting filtered pops get in contact with our Atention Centre for Clients.

3.2 Importing 3P ad server tag

The import of tags from others ad servers is different in version 4 from what it was in version 3. Pay a lot of attention to avoid inconvenients. In version 4 the option of importing tags is introduced to avoid having to load them as HTML banners or Pops HTML as it was made in version 3.

3.2.1 Choosing the format

When importing a tag, choose the real format of the ad. If the banner is in Flash, choose "Banner - Flash". If it is a pop up GIF, choose "Pop Up - GIF". You must not use the option HTML banner or Pop Under HTML to upload tags that show other type banners. How can you know the format? If you do not know which is the format of the banner that you were sent, open it with your navegator and you will be able to determine it.

3.2.1.1 Banners

In banners, you should indicate it's dimensions (width and hight). You will only be able to associate it to the spaces of the variable size or to those of fix size whose dimensions coincide with the banner dimensions.

3.2.1.2 Layers

In Layers it is not necessary to indicate the dimensions because these are determined by the other ad server. It is not possible to apply the e-planning effects to tag layers from 3P ad servers tags. The other ad server is in charge of this.

3.2.1.3 Pops

When importing a tag from a pop, you must know first which ad server will be the one that opens the pop window. This is extremely important and if you don't indicate it correctly the pop might not show or a pop in blank shows and another with the ad. How to know if the tag opens a new window? Just open the tag you were sent in your navegator. If the screen stays blank and a new screen opens with the ad, then the tag (the other ad server) is the one opening the window. If the ad opens in the same window, then the other ad server is not opening the window and it will be done by e-planning. Once you know this you must answer the question on the screen: Does the 3P ad server tag open the pop window? Answer yes when the tag opens the window and no when it must be opened by e-planning. If e-planning opens the window, there are more possible options that you must answer: Window size: width and hight in pixels Pop options: indicate if the pop includes tool bar, directory, etc. Pop position: indicate if it must be open centered, upwards in the left or in any specific position.

3.2.2 File

Once you selected the format you must upload the file. You can choose searching the file in you computer and upload it or simply paste it in the available text area. Choose only one of the two options. E-planning will process the tag and import it to the system. If you find any mistake in the tag you will be indicated so on the screen. If not, once you have upload it you can test if it goes correctly to the banner list. If you have problems to visualise a tag after uploading it to e-planning, test before opening it directly in the navegator, as you were sent. Many times, the tags are targeted into countries or have user frecuencies that unables them to be seen, even when they have been uploaded correctly.

4. Edition

If you already uploaded a banner or a tag and want to change something from it, you can edit it any time you want. In the version 4 some atributes can be modified. If you wish to test the layer effects you can upload a test layer and change anything you want from it.
